Mobile apps helping seniors to sodark green wristbandscializeSummer Festival Preview It"s that time of year again. As spring settles in (albeit slowly), the summer music festival season in Denver is hard on its heels. We"ll be giving you a heads-up about some of these events as they approach-and we"ll start with the annual Westword Music Showcase, to be held June 22, 2013. WHY ARE YOU HAVING THE PARTY? Do you what to have a theme part or just a get together with friends? Last year my daughter turned 23. We do not have any family around so a family birthday party is kind of dull. So I decided to have a get together with friends. I did not want to call it a birthday party because we did not expect gifts so I decided to have an International Party. The party would be a small party at my house, no decorations required but all food had to be from a different country. Add music. There are times when the sounds of nature are perfect to accompany your exercise. Then, there are the times when your soul feels the need to bust a move! The right music at the right time can be all the motivation you need to keep going. Go on, shake your groove thing! It"s good for you. Of course the expectation of the type of performance varies based on where the audience has assembled and for what purpose. An audience at a country festival wristbands expects to see a country music performance. An audience at a comedy club expects to see a professional stand up comedian who will make them laugh. Deciding on what event wristbands you want to host will help narrow down your choices. If you would like to host Murder Mystery Play, it will require a good size place and extra people to perform. If you wish to host a Mystery game, you can host in your own home or find a small venue that will not require many extra people to help you. Fishing is another popular pastime in Lorne. Beach fishing can be good but most anglers seem to prefer the Lorne pier where you can catch just about anything. Whiting and Flathead are a common catch and in winter you can get on to a school of Snapper. Squid can also be caught by jigging at the end of the pier. If you don"t have any luck there is no need to worry because the local fishing co-op is right near the pier and sport wristbands they do very good fish and chips. Right now it"s a whirlwind of excitement for me. I"m painting all the time and have ideas come to mind 24/7. This has been the longest stretch of having my artist mojo in... well forever. I hope the future brings new exhibit opportunities, increase in orders for custom work, I hope for a few sales, and I can"t wait to see what I learn. Hopefully I will be able to show on a smaller scale and maybe even put on a show myself. Now, the great news for you is performing skills, like all skills, can be developed and nurtured through the right type of practice, training and coaching. And, many of these performing skills are abilities that you already possess. Further, in terms of performing, a little bit goes a long way. You will be thrilled how a few little changes make your presentation a lot more fun for you and your audience.
HEFEI - While most of Jiang Licun"s friends are working in the fields, the 53-year-old is living a life of the fame on the internet.
Wearing a headset, Jiang records a popular song on a singing app on his smartphone and uploads it. Within minutes, the song has more than 20 comments and some listeners give him virtual flowers as encouragement.
"I like reading the comments, and I usually reply one by one," said Jiang, a rural resident in Anhui province.
For many seniors, online music platforms such as Tencent"s WeSing have created a new stage where they can find songs from the 1980s and 1990s, connect with other "singers" that share similar tastes, and even sing a duet with a complete stranger.
"I have uploaded 133 songs, and I have 442 followers on WeSing," Jiang said. "My daughter said I use the app much better than she does."
In an era of access to information, many seniors are beginning to explore the internet to enrich their lives, particularly WeChat.
Among the seniors who use the popular messaging app, 98.5 percent chat, but about 70 percent also make videos, 40 percent pay mobile phone bills, and 30 percent shop online, according to a report by Tencent and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Many also know how to make hongbao - red envelopes used to send money as a gift.
"I had a video chat with my grandson yesterday," said Pan Xuelan, 60. "He looked fatter than last time.
"I chat with him every week. The internet truly makes life easier."
Older WeChat users have even created a series of special emojis with big characters and bright colors, and that are usually filled with "positive energy", according to a Tencent report.
These emojis, which carry traditional messages, such as "Wish you every success" and "Have a wonderful morning" are considered dated by most young people, but appeal to some due to their retro feel.
"For every holiday, my mother sends me such emojis," said Chen Xiaojie, a teacher in Beijing. "For example, for New Year"s Day, she sent me a spinning emoji with the Chinese characters for "happy holidays"."
Zhao Jie, a professor at Anhui University, said the need for emotional communication and socializing has prompted many seniors to explore the internet.
"Their children should spend more time with them, and encourage them to go out rather than stay at home," Zhao said. "Their lives will become more abundant with more companionship, and they will rely less on the internet."
